শানে নুযূলঃ এ আয়াত আব্দুল্লাহ্ ইবনে উবাই প্রমুখ মুনাফিকের সম্পর্কে নাযিল হয়েছে। একদিন তারা সাহাবা কেরামের একটা জমা'আতকে আস্তে দেখলো। তখন ইবনে উবাই আপন সাথীদের বললো, "দেখো! আমি কি করি।" যখন তাঁরা (সাহাবীগণ) নিকটে পৌছলেন তখন ইবনে উবাই প্রথমে সিদ্দীক্বে আকবর (রাদিয়াল্লাহু তা'আলা আন্হু)-এর হাত মুবারক হাতে নিয়ে তাঁর প্রশংসা করলো। অতঃপর অনুরূপভাবে, হযরত ওমর ও হযরত আলী (রাদিয়াল্লাহু তা'আলা আন্হু)-এর হাত মুবারক আপন হাতে নিয়ে তাঁর প্রশংসা করলো। হযরত আলী মুরতাদা (রাদিয়াল্লাহু তা'আলা আন্হু) বললেন, "হে ইব্নে উবাই! আল্লাহ্কে ভয় করো, মুনাফিকী থেকে বিরত হও! কেননা, মুনাফিকরাই হলো নিকৃষ্টতম সৃষ্টি।" এর উত্তরে সে বলতে লাগলো, "এসব কথাবার্তা মুনাফিক-সুলভ মনোভাব নিয়ে মোটেই বলা হয়নি। আল্লাহ্র শপথ! আমরা আপনাদের মতোই প্রকৃত ঈমান্দার।"যখন এ সাহাবীগণ চলে গেলেন তখন সে (ইব্নে উবাই) তার সাথীদের মধ্যে স্বীয় চালবাজির উপর গর্ব করতে আরম্ভ করলো।
এ ঘটনার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতেই এ আয়াত শরীফ নাযিল হয়েছে। (এ'তে এ মর্মে আলোকপাত করা হয়েছে) যে, মুনাফিকগণ মুমিনদের সাথে সাক্ষাতের সময় ঈমান ও ইখ্লাস (নিষ্ঠা) প্রকাশ করে থাকে। আর তাঁদের নিকট থেকে আলাদা হয়ে নিজেদের খাস বৈঠকগুলোতে তা'নিয়ে উপহাস ও ঠাট্টা-তামাশা করে। (এ ঘটনা ইমাম সালাভী ও ওয়াহেদী বর্ণনা করেছেন। যদিও ইবনে হাজর ও ইমাম সুয়ূতী 'লুবাবুন্নু কূল'- এর মধ্যে এ বর্ণনাকে দুর্বল বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন।)
মাস্আলাঃ এ'তে বুঝা গেলো যে, সাহাবা কেরাম এবং ধর্মের ইমামগণকে নিয়ে ঠাট্টা-উপহাস করা 'কুফর'।

We like you believers true."When he went to the Prophet (Man Ubay) began to boast of his companions in their device.
Sharif, in the context of this verse has been revealed. (Ete has highlighted the fact) that, during the meeting with the faith of believers and hypocrites ikhlasa (devotion) has been published.
